Cabling and connectors are part of the “nervous system” of modern intelligent buildings. They deliver power, lighting, control, communications, security, and life safety systems. These components also reach out to other Internet protocol (IP) networks and wireless communications.

A holistic approach is required for the design and implementation of cabling in modern buildings. Construction costs savings for integrated systems are primarily attributable to the efficiencies in cabling, cable pathways, labour, project management and system management hardware and software.

OSS Technologies brings Information and Communications Technology (ICT) expertise to the built environment to address the requirements set by the convergence of control, networking and telecommunications.

Construction costs for any building include the building technology systems that are at the heart of a smart building, namely telecommunications, building automation and life safety systems. The construction costs apply whether these systems are installed separately or as integrated systems. The cost savings of for integrated systems are primarily attributable to the efficiencies in cabling, cabling pathways, labour, project management and system management hardware and software.

Cabling system design is done primarily based on the guidelines of Telecommunications Industry Association’s TIA-942 Telecommunications Infrastructure Standard for Data Centers. Knowledge of these standards allows for cabling system designs that incorporates cooling and air-flow considerations as well as the management of moves, adds and changes over the building lifecycle.

The OSS Technologies cabling design service has a telecommunications and data centre background. Issues that are typically ignored in building design are addressed through our experience and subject expertise.

  • Cabling move, add and changes management
  • Bandwidth considerations¬† and cabling categorisation design
  • Integrated fibre and copper architectures
  • Consideration for Wi-Fi access points
  • Incorporation of security (cameras and/or access control) network
  • Feedback on cabling design for purposes of obtaining green building credits

The time for convergence of technologies in the built environment has arrived. OSS Technologies is uniquely positioned to address the engineering challenges whilst reducing project cost and improving building operational efficiency.
